Hi, I'm Ally! I'm a registered social worker specialising in mental health, with both undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from Griffith University. My focus is on gay men's health, supporting individuals through gender-related challenges such as dysphoria, and guiding transgender individuals on their journey. Growing up in a small town in North Queensland, I came out as queer at 14, an experience that deeply shaped my understanding of identity and personal growth. Coming from a mixed ethno-racial family, I developed a strong appreciation for how our intersecting identities shape who we are. During my adolescence, I also experienced what it felt like to be 'alone' as the only gay Jewish person in my town. This unique journey taught me to build self-assurance, confidence, and resilience while navigating my identity. These experiences have shaped the person I am today and fuel my passion for helping others find their own confidence and sense of belonging. My work is rooted in empathy, cultural awareness, and a commitment to fostering inclusivity and self-empowerment in the communities I serve.
In my practice, I integrate both Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic therapy to provide holistic, client-centered interventions. ACT allows me to support clients in accepting their thoughts and emotions, while guiding them toward living a meaningful life aligned with their values, even in the face of adversity. This approach is especially powerful when working with individuals navigating identity-related challenges. On the other hand, psychodynamic therapy helps me explore the deeper unconscious patterns and past experiences that shape my clients' current thoughts, behaviour's, and relationships. By combining these approaches, I can offer a comprehensive and nuanced framework for healing and self-discovery, empowering clients to gain insight, manage distress, and make transformative changes in their lives.
